Several years ago my mother found these four tin types in a box of memorabilia from one of my great-grandmothers. We have no idea who they are, but I find them very interesting.
Reflections of Eternity
"In all of us there is a hunger, marrow deep, to know our heritage - to know who we are and where we came from. Without this enriching knowledge, there is a hollow yearning. No matter what our attainments in life, there is still a vacuum, an emptiness, and the most disquieting loneliness." -- Alex Haley, Roots

Tombstone Tuesday: Sheffield
Buried in the Etna City Cemetery in Northern California little Willie E. lies far from his family. My mother's father's family has been the only Sheffield's in the small Scott Valley since the mid to late 1800's having mines on the Salmon River near Sawyers Bar. We have yet to find the connection between little Willie E. and any of our Sheffield ancestors. (His tombstone has also been moved over the years...a foot this way a foot that way).
